Obesity Or Overweight
Being obese and being overweight are different points. An obese person has a huge amount of extra body fat, and it is not a few extra pounds. People suffering from obesity are very overweight and at risk for serious diseases. To decide if someone is obese, doctors and other health care professionals often use a method called body mass index. Usually a doctor measures a person's height and weight. Then the doctor uses these results to calculate body mass index. Once the doctor has got a child's or teen's body mass index, he will plot this number on a special table to see how it measures up to other people of the same age and gender. A person with a body mass index above the 95th percentile is usually considered overweight. A person with a body mass index between the 85th and 95th percentiles usually is considered at risk for obese. Obesity is the word used for intense overweight.
